With Us... Not Afraid

As Elisha’s servant searched the hills around the campsite, the morning light sparked glimmers of shiny chariots and armed soldiers mounted on horses. Everywhere he looked. Their armor glistened in the sun. Frozen at attention patiently waiting for the command to charge. (2 Kings 6:15-17)

“Master… Master! Come quickly. Come and see.” The fearful man ran inside to awaken Elisha.

Elisha came to the tent’s opening sipping his morning cup of tea. “Don’t worry about them. Don’t be afraid. Look closer. There are more with us than against us.”

And the prophet of God prayed, “Open the eyes of his heart, Lord, open his spiritual eyes to see.”

“Wow” Elisha’s attendant turned to his left, to his right, and behind him. “Wow.”

“Behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around them.”

Feeling surrounded? Feeling under siege? Feeling confused because those seemingly attacking you are usually familiar friendlies—family and friends? The uprising…the division in our homes, our nation and around the world…makes no sense to our logical Christian brains.

Guilt. Scorn. Confusion.

What have I done wrong? Why is my soul at unrest?

Fear not. God is still on the Throne.
He is still in charge.
He is still with me…and you.

Paul wrote to the Romans, “…If God is for us, then who can be against us?” Romans 8:31

Paul goes one to reassure the Roman church that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. I encourage you to read and reread 8:31-39 and let God’s word strengthen and encourage your faith in knowing His promise to never leave us or forsake us. We are never alone.

The Lord is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Jesus promised “and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:20

We must prepare for the battle by securing the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-17)

Pray in the Spirit for our fellow Christ followers feeling the same way  (Ephesians 6:18)

Trust in the Lord with ALL our hearts and lean not on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5)

Pray for spiritual eyes to see God’s army of horses and chariots of fire
(2 Kings 6:17)
