Waiting in The Wings

I wait…and I wait.

I pace rather than pray.

I weep rather than praise.

Waiting is hard work, but it seems to be the work God has called me to do at this time.

Noah waited.  (Genesis 8)

Abraham waited. (Genesis 18)

Isaac waited. (Genesis 24)

Jacob waited. (Genesis 29)

Moses waited. (Exodus 24)

David waited. (Psalm 40 & 62)

Simeon waited. (Luke 2:25)

So why am I struggling to wait? I have these who went before me to be examples written in The Word. I know their outcomes and how God met their waitings.

Still…I am fretting as I wait.

Waiting requires both faith and patience. I say I have the faith, so where is my patience?

One aspect of the Spirit is patience—listed in the love chapter—1 Corinthians 13—and the verses of fruit—Galatians 5:22-23.  From these scriptures I tend to think of my patience with other people not situations.

However, I also have waiting examples from my ancestors—as pilgrims waiting on a ship to reach land after months upon the Atlantic—as pioneers waiting for rains to replenish the thirst of the Great Plains soil.

At one time or another, we must all wait, so I’m choosing to wait in the wings

…the wings of the Most High, Almighty God, Lord of all, El Shaddai.

“Keep me
as the apple of the eye;
Hide me
in the shadow of Your wings.”
Psalm 17:8

God, Your love is so precious!
    You protect people
in the shadow of Your wings.”
Psalm 36:7

“Have mercy on me, O God,
have mercy!
I look to You for protection.
I will hide
beneath the shadow
of Your wings
 until the danger passes by.”
Psalm 57:1

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the Lord,
“My refuge and my fortress,
My God, in whom I trust!”
For it is He who delivers you
from the snare of the trapper
And from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with His pinions,
And under His wings you may seek refuge;
His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark.”
Psalm 91:1-4
