Stalwart Power

Now may the God of hope fill you
with all joy and peace in believing
so that you will abound in hope
by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13 nasb

The God of hope: Steadfast. Dependable. Unwavering. Resolute. Unshakable.

Filled: Infused. Give. Permeate. Fortify.

Abound with: Joy. Peace. Hope

Holy Spirit Power: Courageous. Daring. Fearless. Bold. Valiant. Audacious. Stouthearted.

Dauntless – never frightened or worried…even by very difficult or dangerous things

My son played a role described as “the stalwart young man” and I have since been fascinated by the word “stalwart.” The word means everything described above for God of hope, Holy Spirit power, and my favorite synonym, dauntless.

Where does that Stalwart power come from?

From His Holy Spirit

Romans 15:13 says God is the God of hope. He is the source of hope. He gives hope, which is our “confident expectation” not wishful thinking, filled with joy and peace so that we, Believers in and followers of Christ, may abound and overflow with hope, confident expectation, through the power of His Holy Spirit.

Be strong and
let your heart take courage,
all you who hope in the Lord.”
Psalm 31:24 nasb

“...the Lord looks after
those who fear Him,
those who put their hope in His love.
He saves them from death
and spares their lives in times of hunger.
So our hope is in the Lord.
He is our help, our shield to protect us.”
Psalm 33:18-20 ncv

So, when life throws us stressors and disasters which test our strength and hope (confident expectation), we can trust in “the God of hope” to supply joy and peace, and an infusion of His true Hope by the Stalwart Power of His Holy Spirit.
