Saibari shows 'Swiss cheese' legs at Bayern Munich: Controversy over holey socks sparks Bundesliga talking point
Saibari's sock modification is a common player adaptation to manage calf swelling during matches, not a violation of DFL rules as long as color distinction is maintained. The story is a minor equipment issue with low risk, driven by media novelty rather than performance impact. Referees focus on clear color distinction per FIFA/IFAB principles. DFL guidelines issued 5 December 2025 address equipment standards. Overall risk rating low; story expected to fade quickly unless referees intervene.
Ismael Saibari, the 25-year-old new signing at Bayern Munich, has become the focus of a minor but widespread controversy in German media after showing his 'Swiss cheese' legs full of holes in his two most recent matches. In the 0-0 draw against Schalke, Saibari wore socks with 12 holes, making his legs look like Swiss cheese with many holes. After the 5-1 victory over Stuttgart, when Bayern Munich secured a dominant win, Saibari spoke to Bild to explain that he tries to keep his socks not too tight because of his thick calf muscles.
