Bahrain win 3–0 yet eliminated: The point-ratio lesson at the Fukuoka Asian Volleyball Championship

FUKUOKA, September 17, 2026 – Hasan Haider Mohamed’s seventh kill block sealed Bahrain’s 25–23 third-set win over Oman. Bahrain fans celebrated as if the 3–0 victory would be enough. But elite Asian volleyball does not hand out quarterfinal tickets for one perfect afternoon. The point-ratio table from earlier pool matches still mattered, and Bahrain was eliminated. At the 2026 Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship in Fukuoka, Bahrain won 25–16, 25–19, 25–23 against Oman. They tied India on wins, points and set ratio, but fell short on point ratio. India took the last quarterfinal spot as the second-best third-placed team. Oman’s outside hitter Fallah Saleem Al-Aabed Mubarak Al Jaradi scored 13 points, matching Bahrain’s Sayed Hashem Ali. Bahrain’s opposite Abdulla Ebrahim Moh’d added 10 points, while Hasan Haider Mohamed produced seven kill blocks and 11 total points. Oman’s opposite Majid Abdallah Ali Al-Shibli managed 11 points but could not overcome Bahrain’s strong middle-block pressure. Bahrain played standard power volleyball with quick middle attacks and heavy outside hitting. Their serving disrupted Oman’s reception, and their blocking controlled the net. The lack of tactical variation became visible in the third set, but Bahrain still had enough individual quality to finish the match convincingly. The real lesson is about tiebreakers. In a three-team comparison, point ratio can decide who advances. Bahrain won the match but lost the qualification race because of points conceded in earlier sets. India managed their matches better. The tournament is a qualifier for the LA 2028 Olympics and the 2027 World Cup. Bahrain’s performance shows progress, but they need deeper roster options and stronger point-ratio management. India now moves into the quarterfinals, where the pressure will be much higher.
